Before there was a stage, before there were lights or scenery, an audience and the sound of applause, there was a dream. The dream belonged to Wendell Cherry, first board chairman of the Kentucky Center for the Arts and force behind our current art collection. It was the dream of Mary and Barry Bingham, Sr., who provided the drive behind our endowment, and then capped their fund-raising efforts with the Bingham Endowed Series. And it was the dream of Marlow Burt, our first Executive Director, who saw us through the early years and kept the dream alive. Special tours of the Kentucky Center, including backstage, and guided tours of the Kentucky Center's distinguished collection of 20th Century artwork are available with advance notice by calling Customer Services at (502)562-0187. There is a $1 fee per person. More

In the front room of the Thomas Edison House is a chronology or timeline which illustrates the life of Edison, some of his most significant inventions, and major national and international events that occurred during this period. He witnessed and was a significant force behind many of these remarkable changes. Thomas Alva Edison was born in 1847 in Milan, Ohio. At that time, James Polk was President and Abraham Lincoln was just contemplating running for the legislature. When Edison died in 1931, at the age of 84, Herbert Hoover was President and we were in the middle of the Great Depression. During his lifetime Edison saw the United States engaged in two major wars: the Civil War when he was a teenager, and World War I when he was an adult and appointed to assist the Secretary of the Navy. His inventions had a significant effect upon his times and permanently altered the way in which we live today. More

Many of the pieces displayed in the Frazier Museum once belonged to famous politicians and celebrities; noted frontiersmen and soldiers. At no other museum in the world will you find the ceremonial sword of Founding Father Josiah Bartlett, the family bible of legendary pioneer Daniel Boone, the "Big Stick" of President Theodore Roosevelt, the bow attributed to the great Apache warrior Geronimo, or the ivory-handled Colt pistols of General George Armstrong Custer. Thanks to the unique and historic collaboration with Royal Armouries, the Frazier will also display the arms and armor of kings and knights; the possessions of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I; and other wonderful artifacts from Europe that date back 1,000 years.
