The River City is fascinating and should be known. Along with Cincinnati, Chicago, St. Louis, Hartford, Boston, New York, and Philadelphia, the city of Louisville was a charter member of the National League. As a matter of fact, it can be argued that Louisville is the true birthplace of the National League as all meetings pertaining to its formation of this new organization were held here. The Louisville Bats are the Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.
Churchill Downs
Horse racing in Kentucky is rich in history, dating back to 1789 when the first race course was laid out in Lexington. However, it was almost 100 years later, in 1875, that Churchill Downs officially opened and began its tradition as "Home of the Kentucky Derby."
Louisville Slugger Museum
It takes a special place to craft the Official Bat of Major League Baseball. Since 1884, Louisville Slugger has put prime lumber in the hands of the greatest players of the game. A visit to the museum shows you how the sport has changed a bit between then and now, but the "crack of the bat" remains one of the sporting world's most thrilling moments.
Bellarmine University Athletics
The Knights compete at the NCAA Division II level, and as members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Bellarmine is at the peak of competition. In the quarter century, the GLVC has been in existence, it can boast 45 national team championships, 79 individual national champions, 500 All-Americans, and 25 national Coach of the Year recipients.
